ATTACHEMENT/INTERNSHIP POSITION

Lakebay Limited has an attachment/ internship position for either continuing or final year student or fresh graduate. Lakebay is an upcoming medium size commercial cow dairy farm. It has two main farms, both in Bondo Sub County, Siaya County. One is located near Nyaudenge Beach in in East Yimbo Ward another near Utonga Beach in West Sakwa Ward.

This is a hands- on practical position that dairy cow industry demands. The position shall provide both technical and operational support. S/he shall implement technical and manual farm operations and supervise farm manual workers.

Summary of the responsibility

The primary responsibility shall be to plan and implement the production, harvesting, post harvesting handling and storage of livestock feed including grains, forage, and pasture by applying Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and cost effective suitable technologies. Lead farm workers by practically making silage, hay, Total Mixed Rations (TMR) etc.

Examples of the planned feed to produce are maize, sorghum, soybean, napier grass, lucerne and Brachiaria grass.

Secondary responsibilities include technical and operational inputs in tree and fruit tree planting.

Duration

The position will be for about six (6) months from February to July 2023.

Requirements

Either a continuing or final year student or a fresh graduate studying or who studied agriculture or livestock production at either certificate or diploma level.
Youthful, energetic and innovative.
Demonstrated capacity to offer technical input with emphasis on agronomy of dairy cow feed production
Ability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate activities.
Able to prepare very high quality daily, weekly and monthly reports and timely submit online/electronically.
Good in keeping farm records.
Honesty in managing finances.
Excellent soft skills (e.g., work place communication, work readiness etc).
Ability to work in a team of experts/officers from county government, research, private sector.
Competent in using MS office package.
Familiarity with the area in which the farms are situated, the context, climatic conditions etc.

Remuneration

Lakebay will provide to a successful applicant:

A modest monthly stipend to a successful applicant.
Basic available transport (Boda Boda) or matatu where applicable to and from work place
Where available, motorbike if one a valid accident free riding licence.

A successful applicant must accept to cater for his/her own accommodation and meals and purchase mentorship or internship or attachment insurance cover.
