Lakebay Limited is recruiting an animal health and production technician. Lakebay is a startup medium size commercial dairy cow farm. It has two main farms, both in Bondo Sub County, Siaya County. One is located near Nyaudenge Beach in in East Yimbo Ward another near Utonga Beach in West Sakwa Ward. This is a hands- on practical position which dairy cow industry demands.

Summary of the responsibilities.

The primary responsibility shall be to:

  1. Design and manage the implementation of dairy farm plans, farm structures and infrastructures;
  2. Manage and operate dairy cow production farms;
  3. Plan and implement the production, harvesting, post harvesting handling and storage of dairy cow feed (including grains, forage, and pastures);
  4. Manage animal health and welfare, control and manage animal diseases and pests;
  5. Manage processing of milk and milk products and profitable sale thereof;
  6. Manage human resources and farm property;
  7. Ensure Compliance Safety and Accountability (CSA) and adherence to dairy cow health and production Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs);
  8. Manage finances and
  9. Achieve all key performance indicators.

Secondary responsibilities include:

  1. Technical and operational management of tree and fruit tree farming and
  2. In future manage health, production and processing of products of pigs, rabbits and poultry.

Duration

This position is on contract. Initial contract is for 1 year upon satisfactory completion of probation. The Contract is renewal contingent upon performance exceeding expectations and favorable business environment.

Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma in Animal health and production with concentration or specialization in dairy cow from a reputable institution.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in a busy dairy cow for—profit private farm.
  • Excellent soft skills (e.g., work place communication, work readiness etc.).
  • Prudent financial management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team of experts/officers from county governments, research organizations, not- for- profit organizations and for- profit private companies.
  • Competent in using MS office package including MS Excel, Word and other online communications Apps.
  • Skills in using cost effective Software/Apps on dairy cow health, production and marketing of milk and milk products.
  • Able to work with ease in the areas the farms are situated and with the communities therein.
  • Ready to be on call 24/7 and work after office hours, weekends and public holidays should it be necessary.
  • Accept to work outdoors and in the fields in hot weather conditions.
  • Energetic, innovative and youthful.

Remuneration

Lakebay Limited will provide to a successful applicant:

  • Monthly salary less statutory deduction as per the terms and conditions of contract.
  • Employer rent subsidized partly furnished one-bed room house accommodation in Utonga on conditions of completion of probation and finishing of the residence.
  • Where available, motorbike if you a valid accident free riding license.
  • In future, occasionally whenever necessary, may be required to drive a motor vehicle or farm tractor if available and you have a valid accident motor license.
